Thank you for the invite to the Meet the Candidates night.
I don't know now long Rotary has been running this valuable community service, but remember it as a high point of my campaign in 1993 when Council wanted to build a sewer pipe down the bay from the outfall at Cannonvale Beach. Their 18th Century solution to a modern problem fell off the agenda with my 'No Shit' campaign, proving to me that just by running I could make a difference.
Issues this time include rates, charges and for many, body corp insurance; issues that are making living in paradise unaffordable for many, especially families with children.
Another big problem is the lack of work locally. After twenty-five plus years of working around Airlie, the Whitsunday Islands and the GBR I now have to work away to help support my family. I hope that I will be able to attend on the night, however if work rears its ugly head I may be an apology.
I would sincerely miss this wonderful opportunity provided by Rotary.
